Size: Between 800x800 and 1280x1280. Does not have to be square.
Text: None.
Color: The primary color scheme is gold & red, along with some yellow and orange.
Theme: Urban crime, be it street gangs, mafia, or crooked politicians. Dealings, fighting, car chase scene, or bird's eye view. Or simply art of one person without a background. Whatever appeals most to you.
Any specific pictures:  I bought this skybox and cityscape and will be using it in other places as well. You can use any part of this picture if you like, but it is not required. Setting:

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Thanks!

Oops. Did I forget to say Concept Art?

How embarrassing.  Embarassed

Examples of other games' concept art and what it means:

Ah right, you are wanting originals...that would be quite a task for a free art request board, tis more meant as a learning tool for people who are interested in gaining some proficiency in art type programs and helping other folk out in the process, a sort of win win Very Happy

The type of work you link to, are beyond my skills personally, or at least for the kind of time I have available.  I'm not saying no artist here is capable of such work, but I don't think anyone would have the time for quite such detail.

Unless you are after generic type crime scenes, googled up and manipulated to gain the colour scheme you desire and 'arted up' a bit?  That I could do Very Happy

If the harder one, then I don't think we could help you, though Rentacoder (I have provided a link at the foot of this site) would find you such an artist, though you would of course have to pay.

If we can't help in this instance, feel free of course to request any other type of stuff Wink

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Wink

I have already done some of the easier as seen here:
http://paulott.org/images/NOT/car_gun_ps_2.png
http://paulott.org/images/NOT/pull_out_car_gun_ps_4.png
http://paulott.org/images/NOT/stealing_car_ps_1.png
http://paulott.org/images/NOT/counting_money_ps_2.png
http://paulott.org/images/NOT/warehouse_ps_1.png
http://paulott.org/images/NOT/police_with_car_ps_1.png

But I'm not much of an artist. Was hoping for someone with more talent than me to do something. Original colored pieces would be ideal, or BW, or if someone can pull off the same thing I've been doing but better... that works too. Just make sure you adhere to license info when using other people's stuff.

By the way, I've used Rentacoder before for code projects and didn't realize they had a art section. Will keep that in mind! Thanks!

Ah I see, those are great effects from Photoshop, my favourite two, used em many a time Very Happy

You could also do a few bits and bobs with the levels and colouring to improve them a little.  Also, as you are adding effects, you could render cops, bad guys, guns etc into other scenes to add greater diversity to your scenes...

What are these for, anyway?

Wow, I should have been playing with the levels a long time ago. Would have made some of that a lot easier. Hehe. Oh well, I'll do that with future pieces I suppose. By the way, I have been playing with adding stuff in. The policeman, for example, was added to that scene with the car.

My biggest problem is I don't have an experienced eye for art. I've got 10 years of coding experience, but practically no time exploring the fundamentals of art. I did about the best I could here, and I think it would take me a crazy amount of time to try to figure out how to make these better. By that I mean, it took me some time but not too bad to get them to an 'acceptable' level of quality. To try and reach a 'high' level of quality, it'd take someone as inexperienced as me 100s of hours (at least) of experimental trial and error.

I've got a small interview coming up and wanted to have a media release alongside the interview to try my best to promote the game. You can find out more about the game here: http://www.modcenter.com/sf/projects/not  [The first time you go to it, it'll redirect you to the ModCenter home. You'll have to copy & paste it a second time from the homepage to get to it. They're aware of this problem and are fixing it.]

There was a big thread on these forums about the game, but it was deleted for some reason. That's why it says I have 10 posts, but only you'll only find the 4 in this thread.

That's weird, when I click your profile and view 'all posts by PaulO' it only shows these four as you say, but I sure don't remember deleting anything.  I did have a bit of a clearout a while back on removing some unpopular forums but those were mainly the riddle and treasure hunt sections.  Usually when you delete posts it knocks off the post count anyway, so something has gone awry somewhere, all I can do is apologise.

If you post up some clean images of any logos etc (or send them via PM if you prefer) I'll knock you up a little blurb type animation.  Or I could even make it into a small video to be shown on YouTube (or similar).

What I have in mind is showing your images as a sort of slideshow with your logo as a permanent piece with the following text added to each 'slide':

    NOT FANTASY
NOT takes place in a modern, urban crime-filled metropolis.

    NOT LINEAR GAMEPLAY
You are in control of your own destiny.

    NOT XP-BASED COMBAT
As you play NOT, don't expect your character to become exponentially powerful in combat.

    NOT SUBSCRIPTION FEES
It's free to download and play. Do we need to say more?

Of course, I'd make it all artyfied.  You pick the images you want in if you like, or change what text I use, or tell me its not really what you want.

Looks great btw, well done.

If you go to the ACP and click "Maintainence" and go to "Resync Post Counts" it should fix this error  Wink

Sounds great! The logo can be found here:

http://paulott.org/images/NOT/NOT_logo2.psd

It's a photoshop file if that is ok. I figure that way you can use which ever layers you want. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll convert it to something else.

The one thing I would suggest is changing:

NOT XP-BASED COMBAT
As you play NOT, don't expect your character to become exponentially powerful in combat.

to:

NOT XP OR EQ BASED COMBAT
Only your wit and skill determine your success in combat.

I've also made one more art piece if needed:
http://www.paulott.org/images/NOT/apartment_lights_ps_1.png

Thanks for the kind offer!

Edit: Yeah, I don't know what happened to the other thread. It was in the Misc forum. Was asking for an Art Manager/Consultant/Director type to help guide the art side of the project. Like I've shown, I'm not interested in making everything from scratch. I'm more interested in putting together a working final product. But 2d and 3d game art, animation, textures, shaders, etc, are all very new to me and I could really use someone helping out with that stuff.

Ok, I will get on it (I work full time so will prolly be the weekend, I am notorious for forgetting stuff so I like people to bump - a Thursday night bump would be great)

Did you want it as a .gif animation? Flash? YouTube? etc?

If a .gif/flash..what size would you like it? Standard banner size?

A guide to sizes:

Spoiler:

If you're going to artify it, I'd say go with flash. Animated gifs and youtube don't really strike me as a very good medium for art. As for size, let's do something around this size:

If that shape doesn't go with what you had in mind (you mentioned banner) or if you have a moment of artistic inspiration, feel free to chop off the height. Let's try to stay between 320-420 width though. Sound good? Any questions, shoot 'em this way.

I'll give you a friendly bump on Thursday night. Thanks again!

This is the Thurs night bump, as per your request. Smile

By the way, if it isn't too much trouble, please use one of these two Multiverse logos for at least 2 seconds at the very end of the animation:Thanks again!

What website do you want it to advertise?

http://www.modcenter.com/sf/projects/not

^^^ That one?

I installed Flash...tis a bit Krypton Factor, so I'm gonna take a rain check on that Laughing (if you don't know what Krypton Factor is [ie you are not English] then it is an old GB TV prog that was designed to be very intellectually and physically demanding of the contestants....so if something is hard we tend to say it is Krypton Factor).

Anyway, I digress...

Did a bit of farting about and made a bit of a trial run, no sound as yet, and I am not too sure on the timings but you can see the concept:

Link

YouTube is a great medium to show something off and you get to add a soundtrack too...do you have a soundtrack?

Nice progress so far! I think I understand what you're saying about Flash being a Krypton Factor. This YouTube version looks perfectly fine.

For music, try this out and let me know what you think of it. Will have to loop it a few times:
http://www.paulott.org/images/NOT/Orchestral.mp3

About the WIP:
- For some reason the Multiverse guys insist sticking the logo at the end of trailers/video/stuff, and not the front. Maybe we could replace the first one with a NOT logo?
- Yep, that's the correct URL.
- Looks great so far!

The code to embed it is:

Code:
<object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BpdK62josYY"> </param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BpdK62josYY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> </embed> </object>

Sweet!

Any chance I can get the source movie file? I'm thinking of changing the music in Windows Movie Maker.

I'd like to give you credit for this. How would you like the credit attributed? Your name and a website? This forum and your handle?
