Task
Take a photograph of anything you like, though it must be within 5 miles of where you live.

Prize
A prize of £10 will be given via PayPal to the winner.  If you don't have PayPal, a prize of £10 will be sent to the charity of the winners choice, or an item bought on Ebay on behalf of the winner and sent to the winners address.

Closing Date
    Sunday 20th September 2008 10pm (GMT)

Voting
The winner will be decided by me (which gives everyone a chance to enter, I will judge each and every photo on its own merits., though I will gladly invite comments on all photos.

Good luck!

Additional Rules

Please resize your photos to 800x600 for display in the competition.  JPG format only.
You are free to enhance your photos with the use of filters etc, though be warned excessive doctoring usually detracts from the original photo.
You may submit more than one photo if you desire.
Feel free to enter this competition whether you are a CG Arts artist, moderator, admin, or even if your entry is your first post here.
It is perfectly fine to enter with a photo taken on a mobile phone, a well composed grainy photo will beat a crystal clear photo of someones thumb (unless the thumb is the subject of the photo and it's done in a good way).

Any questions feel free to ask.

Durham Castle (about 3 or 4 mile away from where I live), taken from The Gates (a nearby shopping center) using my mobile phone (a Sony Ericsson K750i with a 2mp camera) Very Happy

I know I didn't need to say all that but I thought, why not....

Ooh I think I've been there, when I was on a residential at Durham University, though it's fair to say alcohol played a big part of that week hence not sure Very Happy

Edit: I've definitely peed from that bridge, about four of us did.  Well it was 14 years ago, I was very young and very very drunk.  The local brew, Theakstons was very nice indeed.

Haha, nice one! lol

With my bloomin cameras you have to time photos like that, you press the button and half an hour later it takes the photo  Evil or Very Mad

When you do the proper one, make sure it's 800x600 Wink

If you (or anyone else) has difficulty resizing your photo, ask, and we will help you  Cool

Just noticed that it says Sunday the 20th as closing date, sunday is the 21st not 20th...

Cmon guys/gals, not long left, you may as well enter, you could win.

Symon, you said you would get around to submitting a propper entry, where is it, i would hate to win by default.

Ok, my thoughts:

Brandons: I love how you've captured the light in the photo, it sort of has a soft, dreamy quality to it, evoking images of lazy carefree days.

u1bd2005: Great angle to take that photo from, it gives to me a sort of feeling of strength from the castle as it watches over the people.  Strength, with lots of power.

Symon: Fantastic action photo, has the fun element too, with the capture of you as the proud owner looking on, would probably have stood a good chance of winning if it had been the right size.

The Durham Castle picture really captures a lot of contrasts, old and new, peace and war, strength and weakness...its all there.  Great piccy.  Brandons is also very very good, I really love the setting.  However, a winner must be chosen and that winner is:

Spoiler:

Durham Castle

PM me with Paypal address, or whichever way you want the money Wink

Congratulations.

I think I might make this a regular feature, maybe once a month or something, what do you reckon?

Any chance we could get this rolling again? And you wouldn't have to give money, you could just give the winner a chance to be named "Photographer of the month", or something like that. Is there enough people on here to have an interest?

Do you have a theme in mind?

Sure! I think it would be fun to change up the themes, month to month. A couple of ideas for themes could be Animals, Flowers, Panoramic Nature Views, Buildings, and would even be fun to do some abstract stuff, you know, the kind you have to try to guess what the heck it is? lol Just some ideas thrown out there.

Are there other photographers here? I know the last contest was a while ago.

I don't think there are any that do it as a real hobby, more keen enthusiasts that like to look at good pics and take the odd one too.

Some great ideas there.  It's definitely something I'd like to see more of on here Smile

can they be old pics as well, like from old holidays or so or do they have to be taken especially for the contest?

Well we could have different rules for each comp Frank.  Maybe one of the themes could be old pics from your family album or something like that.

Yeh, I think we'll do it, just a question of when.
