Hi Guys,
Hope this is in the correct place - please move if not!
Bravo will confirm that I am not the most gifted person when it comes to knowing much about the practical or physical side of making cosmetic changes to these boards. Whilst I'll invariably have a go at something, I need a fair bit of hand-holding. It's the complete opposite for me when it comes to the content of the board, but the cosmetic presentation, changing how it looks and anything imagery-based is decidedly not my metier!
You can see my board by hitting the logo in my signature.
Now the current logo was done by one of my board members, and has served us well in the 5 months the board's been up and expanding.
But, as we progress, and along with some new skins/board views I've just downloaded, I'm now thinking the board needs a new logo, something a bit more snazzy, and I'm looking for ideas and help in producing the designs for it.
OK, that's where I am with it - so what do you guys need from me in terms of input to get this puppy off the ground?
Thanks in advance!
FTB.

Sorry, forgot to mention - the current logo you see in my signature is actual size, but, given the size of the space it exists in on the new skin/board view, I'd like one which stretches the full width of the space it's in now - as you can see, there is a fair size margin on either side of it. |

So you want same size as the existing, with same text? Any particular images you want to incorporate into it? |

Well I would need to know how wide exactly you want it, different people have different settings. To match my PC I would make it 1280 pixels wide, but quite a number of your readers would have 800 pixel wide settings.
As a general rule of thumb, web designers tend not to go above 800px wide as that is considered the maximum width to fit a multitude of PC settings.
However, these days, more and more use of mobile phones are being used to access the internet, so things are in a bit of a state of flux, which is (one reason) why alternative text settings for your images are a must.
So, how does 800 (wide) x 100 (high) grab you?

Also, what do you want the banner to convey? Do you still want the wizard of oz theme? Are there any specific images you like the look of (have a google and see what you like). Also, your colour choices etc etc. As much detail as possible while still leaving room for artistic license. |

Just uploaded it now and it's sent the forum index a bit strange - it's brought back an old problem which makes only the Forum Index option go massive?!
This is something Symon and I were playing with in that link I send you.
Any idea how we fix that? |

Yeh, that happens, not sure how to fix it, I think there's soemthing on howtodoit about that. It's to do with having a different size logo than the one that came with the template. |

Glad you like it mate
On the buggering up side of things it's always best to keep backups in a notepad document (but I think you do that anyway, just mentioning it in case someone stumbles on this thread in the future).
I always have my banners at whatever size the original banner that came with the template was for this very reason. I've just never been bothered to look up how to fix it
Speaking of which, time to change this template here sometime soon I think, it's getting a bit old..... |

Yes mate, what you say makes perfect sense, sound advice for any reader!
As for the template here, you've been going long enough now, and are well established enough, to splash a little paint without folks whining about 'how good the old place was...'
Thanks again Tony, my new logo does look the bollocks! I've more questions, but given their nature, they should be asked in MyFF, as they are about tinkering with the template to achieve what you you've got here in terms of making the user's avatar appear top left corner in a welcome message! Nice touch!
So you over there mate! |

Just a quickie Tony,
Both you and MyFF have that tope left-hand member avatar Welcome feature in your template.
Now I'm after this for my board - did you do this yourself, or did you find a 'How To' on MyFF to do it?
If so, what key words did you search on there to locate the How To?
Cheers in advance mate, I fully intend to get it done at MyFF and not take this off topic here mate! |
